Ford 10 Speed Intro

August 10, 2026

The next few blogs will have some insights on the Ford 10 Speed automatic transmission (10R80 & 10R140). This transmission is installed in many vehicles, from Ranger, F150’s, Expedition, Bronco, Mustang and Ford Super Duty trucks.

These transmissions have some design issues that have caused some serious problems. I’m going to touch on these in the next few blogs. The range of years from this transmission is from 2017 up to the mid 2020’s.

Some of the complaints have been erratic shifting. When this transmission shifts into 4th gear is the most common complaint that I have seen. This is caused by a C.D.F drum that has a part move inside of it and blocks a hole. This hole allows fluid to flow into the clutch assembly for that gear. When it is blocked, it has a very harsh and unstable shift.

Talk to us about how this can be repaired and the transmission does NOT need to be replaced.
