10R80 clutch cylinder failure or known from Ford. “Hub”

This clutch cylinder will become severely worn from the clutch plates. These grooves will eventually wear through and cause a disconnection. Ford has redesigned this part with an anodized coating that is harder.

We have mostly seen where in these areas and not necessarily a broken housing. If the wear is significant enough, it should be replaced along with the other upgraded components. It should be noted that not every transmission needs to be overhauled. Many of these issues we see do not ‘cause major malfunctions and contamination inside the transmission. Many of these can be repaired instead of replaced or overhauled.

It is not uncommon for repair facilities and especially dealerships to suggest replacing the transmission. Experiences. We have done more repairs on these than we have done replacements.

Something to think about.

Another issue is the sleeve moving inside the drum. It will allow the sealing ring on this hub to get forced out of the groove.
